Gymnasium Renovation
Project consisted of demolishing three sides of a 3-story tall gymnasium plus the 'green roof'. This green roof was a special engineered structure capable of not only protecting the gym but holding several feet of soil and sod which the students used for recreation and exercise. B&D had to first remove 2 ” feet of soil and sod, concrete walks, and roof drain system, before we could even begin cutting the concrete structure which was over 36” thick in some places. The picture shows one of our operators saw-cutting the heavy slab for removal by a 200-ton crawler crane. Each section had to be cut and calculated for precise weight so as to not overload the capacity of the crane. The roof is held up by five massive post-tension beams and is 105 feet deep by 170 feet at its widest point.
